Sharon Powell

Sharon Powell

Sharon has been a teacher with LYPA from it’s inception in 1992 and has been Principal since 2001. She is a qualified dance teacher and a member of the International Dance Teacher’s Association. She is LYPA’s main point of contact and oversees the overall running of LYPA as well as supporting the other staff during the classes. Sharon is also an Advanced Skills Teacher in Secondary School Education and has built up a wealth of teaching and management experience, all of which is a massive influence in the continued success of Lancashire Youth Performing Arts.

Jacob Maudsley
Drama Director

Jacob graduated from Liverpool John Moores University with a BA (Hons.) degree in Drama and Creative Writing in 2013. He has recently worked with Byteback Theatre Company in East Lancashire, performing in shows and leading workshops in schools across the county. Jacob has performed in many theatrical productions over the years in venues across Liverpool, the Charter Theatre in Preston as well as at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival. He has also featured in television productions for Title Role Ltd. Jacob has thoroughly enjoyed working at LYPA since he began in 2012.

Sarah Tilling
Dance Director

Sarah spent 6 years as a Junior Associate at the prestigious ‘Northern Ballet School’ in Manchester, working with professional companies such as ‘Northern Ballet Theatre’ and ‘English National Ballet’.  She holds Advanced 2 ISTD (AISTD) qualifications and a Foundation Degree in Professional Dance Practice (FDA).  Sarah has been LYPA’s dance coach since January 2012 and has been responsible for the recent success of our students in the ISTD Modern Dance exams.  Her choreography has recently been showcased at the Liverpool Empire.

Scott Chapman Musical Director

Scott is a Vocal Tutor, Performer and Singer/Songwriter.  He graduated from Edge Hill University with a BA Hons degree in Music, Media and Soun and has performed at several large venues including The Lowry Theatre Manchester, St Georges Hall Liverpool, Aintree Grand National Event and at several Premiership Football Stadiums.  Scott's covers and original material have appeared on a number of local BBC and international radio stations; he has also performed on BBC1 and ITV1 and has recently supported Alison Moyet as well as artists such as Alexandra Burke, Jamelia and Heather Small.  Scott has received vocal training from The Royal Academy of Music London and has achieved many certificates and awards for his singing. At LYPA, Scott’s enthusiasm for musical creation encourages and inspires a high level of confidence vocally and provides students with a range of techniques and exercises that help develop their ability and strengthen them as performers.
